Minister Gatete visits cross-border chip seal roads in Nyagatare District

Minister of Infrastructure together with the Director General of Rwanda Transport Development Agency (RTDA), Mayor of Nyagatare District Mushabe David Claudian and other officials after the visit of one of the bridges under construction alongside Muvumba River.


Nyagatare, 17 April, 2021- Minister of Infrastructure, Hon. Claver Gatete visited the upgrading, rehabilitation works for cross-border low traffic volume roads in Nyagatare District to assess their current status and understand works to be done to expedite their completion. The two road networks visited include Nyagatare - Kanyinya- Kagitumba 38 km; Lot 1 of Nyagatare feeder roads financed by the World Bank and currently at a progress of 16.8%, and Nyagatare-Tabagwe –Karama road (30.8 km) which is completed at 90.25%.

The visited roads are expected to facilitate trade and transport through seven sectors of Nyagatare District namely Nyagatare, Musheri, Matimba and Rwempasha for the road Nyagatare - Kanyinya - Kagitumba and Rukomo, Karama and Tabagwe for the road Nyagatare –Tabagwe - Karama.

Minister Gatete urged the contractor to speed up works and to respect the work schedule for each road. Minister Gatete also visited the 11.81km chip seal roads under construction in Nyagatare District in the framework of the World Bank funded Project, Rwanda Urban Development Project, Phase I to improve business activities and enhance urban planning and management in this Secondary City. Road infrastructure facilities and other related features in secondary cities are expected to make the districts prosperous socio-economic hubs through business and tourism activities. The final completion of Nyagatare-Tabagwe-Karama and Nyagatare urban roads construction works is scheduled at the end of July 2021 and completion of Nyagatare - Kanyinya- Kagitumba id December 2021.
